MP Ramsey particpates in national chicken recipe contest

Aims to win $10,000 for food banks in Essex

Aiming to win $10,000 for her local food bank, MP Ramsey has submitted her favourite grilled chicken sandwich recipe for the Great Canadian Chicken BBQ contest.

The contest is hosted by Chicken Farmers of Canada, which will serve nearly 10,000 sandwiches on Parliament Hill this Canada Day. This is their 24th year serving as national sponsors of Canada Day celebrations in Ottawa.

The MP that submits the winning recipe will win a $10,000 donation for a food bank in their riding. Second and third place will receive donations of $5,000 and $2,500 for their ridings.

The winning sandwich will be announced on June 17, 2016, and proclaimed on television, on Facebook, and on Twitter. Follow along at #MPChickenHero!

Ramsey’s Royal BBQ Maple Chicken – The Essex Experience

I love this recipe and am proud to promote key ingredients produced right in my home communities in Essex County.

Directions

Season boneless, skinless chicken breast lightly with some sea salt.

Combine all of the ingredients for the BBQ sauce in a saucepan and bring it to a gentle simmer for 10 – 15 minutes until it reaches the desired consistency.  Let cool for 30 mins.

Pour sauce over chicken, cover and let marinade overnight.

When ready to cook, grill over barbeque.

Serve on garlic or hamburger buns from Sunrise Bakery in Lakeshore, Ontario with your choice of lettuce, tomato and red onion.
